The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has lamented three years of inactivity at the Ikorodu Government Warehouse, even as it's leadership has sought the help of Assistant Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, ACG Festus Okun in ensuring that life returns to the terminal.
He lamented that for the past one year after the ANLCA chapter executives had held meetings with Tin Can Customs Area Controller, Compt Kunle Oloyede, of which he sent numbers UCL (Uncleared Cargo Lists) to be transferred to Ikorodu Warehouse, nothing has been done in that regard up till now.
The Ikorodu Government Warehouse is directly under the control of the Customs Zonal Headquarters, Zone ‘A’ at Yaba, Lagos.
In his words, he said "We also discussed on the area of Customs clearance of some overtime vehicles that are now abandoned at the warehouse for the past 3 years.
"The ACG responded that since his resumption in office as the new ACG, he has not signed any clearance from Ikorodu government warehouse because he believes all the vehicles are already gazetted
"He advised that the only way of getting such vehicles out from the warehouse is to apply for Delisting at the headquarters instead of clearance being issued from Harvey Road
"He thereby promised to do his best to enable the officers at the warehouse to be busy working, instead of being idle and doing nothing
"We made him to understand all the effort of ANLCA from the beginning of the government warehouse, starting from the time of DCG Sanusi (rtd) of blessed memory, from 2008 till date and how we tried our best to make sure the Customs takeover the Warehouse Revenue from the service providers, with the effort of ACG Ekekezie (rtd) and our Former Acting Controller, AC kidda Hussaini (rtd)
"We also touch the area of allocation of auctions to enable more space in the warehouse for the expected overtime containers that are coming soon with the effort of committee from the ministry of transportation" he said
The ANLCA Chairman in a chat with DAILY TREND said that the group was able to get healthy commitments from ACG Festus Okun in relating with Customs Headquarters in Abuja as regards the mass transfer of overtime cargoes, and ensuring that life returns to the Ikorodu Government Warehouse.
"ACG Okun and his team welcomed and appreciated our visit, he promised to be in good working condition with us and he commended DC Williams Okpabi, the OC government Warehouse for his effort and hardworking performance at ikorodu government warehouse, especially in the area of security" Chief Ikechukwu concluded
